Harpalus dispar Dejean, 1829: 267 .
The specimen here designated as lectotype is a male bearing the labels: “ dispar mihi in Gallia mer.” and “ Lectotype of Harpalus dispar Dejean, 1829 desig. by J. Serrano”. There is also a paralectotype with labels: “male symbol”, “Gallia mer./ Perpignan”, “ Paralectotype ” and “ Harpalus dispar Dejean, 1829 desig. by J. Serrano”.
The lectotype hereby designated shows the morphology currently considered to represent the nominal subspecies (e.g., Fuente, 1927: 226; Jeannel, 1942: 657). These two authors considered the validity of the genus Artabas Des Gozis, 1882 and included within it Harpalus dispar and H. punctatostriatus .
Harpalus dispar includes three subspecies (Kataev & Wrase 1995): H. dispar dispar Dejean, 1829 (West Mediterranean), H. dispar splendens Gebler, 1830 (from Balkan Peninsula to West Siberia) and H. dispar elegantulus Menetries, 1832 (from Transcaucasus to Turkmenistan).
