Harpalus cupreu s Dejean, 1829: 281 .

The specimen here designated as lectotype is a male bearing the labels: “ cupreus m. in Dalmatia.” and “ Lectotype of Harpalus cupreus Dejean, 1829 desig. by J. Serrano ” .

At present there are five subspecies within H. cupreus (Wrase, 2011) . This lectotype likely corresponds to the subspecies Harpalus cupreus fastuosus Faldermann, 1836, distributed in Central and Eastern Europe, Anatolia and the Levant (Kataev & Wrase, 2017c). A probable relict population exists in Middle Atlas ( H. cupreus asaphus Antoine, 1941). This European Mediterranean species may be distinguished from the related Harpalus reitteri Wrase et Kataev, 2011, distributed in the Balkans, following Wrase (2011).
