Harpalus lateralis Dejean, 1829: 278 .

The holotype is a male bearing the following labels: “male symbol”, “ lateralis m. in Hispania”, “ HOLOTYPE ”, “vidit 1974. Z. Mylnář det. 1974” and “ Holotype of Harpalus lateralis Dejean, 1829 . J. Serrano vidit” .

It was probably Mylnář who placed the label “ HOLOTYPE ”, as he examined types of Dejean’s collection (Mylnář, 1979). However, he did not publish any statement about the recognition of the holotype. Fuente (1927) and Antoine (1959) keyed the species. Kataev (1993) also included a detailed illustration of the aedeagus.

The species is distributed in the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco.
