Harpalus (Ophonus) meridionalis Dejean, 1829: 210 .
The specimen here designated as lectotype is a male bearing the labels: “male symbol”, “ meridionalis m. in Galia merid.” and “ Lectotype of Harpalus (Ophonus) meridionalis Dejean, 1829 desig. by J. Serrano ” .
According to Dejean, O. meridionalis and O. subquadratus were collected in the same area. The former was synonymized by Jeannel (1942: 644), a criterion followed by other entomologists (Sciaky,1987: 62; Kataev & Wrase, 2017c). Keys to determine the species are found in Jeannel (1942), Sciaky (1987) and Wrase (2011).
The species is distributed in Central Europe, the Mediterranean Basin and from Anatolia to Turkmenistan (Kataev & Wrase, 2017c).
