Kerivoula papillosa (Temminck 1840)

Papillose Woolly Bat (Kelawar Hutan Besar)

Specimens examined (4).—Krau: TK 152020 (GenBank EU188782), TTU 108218, TTU 108219, TTU 108183.

Type locality.— Indonesia, Java, Bantam (restricted by Tate, 1940) .

Malaysian distribution.—Recorded from Peninsular Malaysia (all states) and Borneo.

Remarks.— Kerivoula papillosa was captured using harp traps set along a walking trail. This species is the largest Kerivoula species (FA: 38-49 mm) recorded in this study and this measurement distinguishes it from other species in the genus. Previous literature suggested that K. papillosa might have included K. lenis, which occurs in broad sympatry with K. papillosa (Vanitharani et al. 2003) . However, K. lenis has smaller body size than K. papillosa (Vanitharani et al. 2003) and our study documented a genetic distance of 10% between these species in the cyt- b gene. Specimens of K. papillosa have a geographic variation of 3.24% in the cyt- b gene between Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo.
