American Black Bear

Ursus americanus (identified by Lowery (1974) as Euarctos americanus) are found throughout the state with most records coming from the Atchafalaya and Mississippi river basins. Since Lowery (1974), specimen records were reported from Cameron, Pointe Coupee, and Saint Landry parishes. Additionally, nonvouchered records were reported from Avoyelles, Franklin, Iberville, Saint Laundry, Union, and West Feliciana parishes.
