Genus Johngarthia Türkay, 1970

Type species. Gecarcinus planatus Stimpson, 1860 [Type locality: Todos Santos, near Cape St. Lucas, Lower California]

Remarks. Tavares (1989; 1991) found no adult characters to support the monophyly of Johngarthia . The existing scattered data on larval morphology apparently do not support the monophyly of Johngarthia as well (Colavite et al. 2021). Further evaluation is required.
