Genus Grapsus Lamarck, 1801

Type species. Cancer grapsus Linnaeus, 1758 [Type locality: Bahama Islands, by means of lectotype selection by Holthuis, 1977: 145]

Remarks. Two Atlantic species, G. adscensionis (Osbeck, 1765) (see Linnaeus, 1758: 630 pro parte– only material from “Insula Adscensionis”) from the eastern Atlantic and central Atlantic (Ascension and St. Helena) (Manning & Chace, 1990) and G. grapsus (see below).
