Pogonostoma (Microstenocera) Jeannel, 1946: 109, 112 (partim).
Pogonostoma (Microstenocera): Rivalier 1970: 318 (partim).

Differential diagnosis. A large subgenus comprising species characterized by small to extremely small body and elytra with irregular setal vesture (throughout or at least on elytral disc) of ornamental setae arising from setigerous tubercles, or microtubercles, or micropits irregularly distributed on intervals between punctures; elytral surface shiny or matt; labrum consistently 4-setose bearing two anterior and two lateral setae; legs and buccal appendages variously coloured.
Note. The subgenus, originally established by Jeannel (1946) and further modified by Rivalier (1970), was recently considerably reassessed in the monograph of the genus (Moravec 2007). It comprises presently 40 species (including the new species described here).
