Notes:—The fossil-species Ilex antiqua Knobloch & Mai (1986: 112) was based on the most anicent findings of Ilex -like fruits (endocarps) from the Upper Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. However, it is a later homonym of the fossil-species Ilex antiqua Heer (1882: 97), based on the fossil leaves of the Upper Cretaceous of Atanikerdluk [= Atanekerdluk], Southern Nuussuaq peninsula of Greenland. Therefore, a new replacement name is needed for the fossilspecies based on fruits.
