Description. ♀. Apterous; body length 2.0– 3.2 mm. Head black, except mandible, anterior region of frons and clypeus testaceous; antenna brown, except scape and part of flagellomere 1 testaceous. Mesosoma black, except pronotum brown, distal extremity of propodeal declivity and most part of mesoscutum testaceous (anterior margin of mesoscutum darkened); petiole black; metasoma black; legs testaceous, except coxae and clubs of femora partly black. Antenna clavate; antennomeres in following proportions: 6:4:10:7:5:5:5:5:4.5:6.5. Head shiny, unsculptured, except occiput granulate; frontal line complete; occipital carina absent; POL = 1.5; OL = 2; OOL = 7. Palpal formula 4/2. Pronotum shiny, bare, crossed by strong transverse impression, with collar unsculptured and disc slightly granulate. Mesoscutum granulate, without lateral pointed apophyses. Mesoscutellum unsculptured. Metanotum flat, granulate, about coplanar to mesoscutellum; sides of metanotum rounded. Metapectal-propodeal disc shiny, slightly granulate, with track of median longitudinal furrow; propodeal declivity, mesopleuron and metapleuron transversely striate. Meso-metapleural suture obsolete. Protarsomeres in following proportions: 13:3:4:12:18. Enlarged claw (Figs 172E, F) with one large subapical tooth and one row of five lamellae. Protarsomere 5 (Figs 172E, F) with two rows of 17–18 lamellae; apex with 5–6 lamellae. Tibial spurs 1/0/1.

♂. Fully winged; body length 1.6–1.7 mm. Head black, except mandible testaceous; antenna brown; mesosoma and metasoma black; legs brown, except tarsomeres 1–4 whitish. Antenna filiform; antennomeres in following proportions: 2:3:4:4:4:3.5:3.5:3.5:3.5:4.5; antennomere 3 less than 3 × as long as broad (4:2). Head dull and granulate; clypeus very prominent, shallowly emarginated, sticking out as bill (Fig. 174C); frontal line absent; occipital carina absent; POL = 5; OL = 3; OOL = 4; vertex with two oval shiny areas situated between lateral ocelli and eyes (areas not anteriorly surrounded by high carina). Palpal formula 4/2. Mesoscutum shiny, granulate. Notauli incomplete, reaching approximately 0.75 × length of mesoscutum. Mesoscutellum and metanotum shiny, unsculptured. Metapectal-propodeal disc shiny, unsculptured, with median longitudinal furrow; propodeal declivity unsculptured. Forewing hyaline, without dark transverse bands; distal part of 2r-rs&Rs vein longer than proximal part (10:6). Dorsal process of paramere (Fig. 173B) long and with broad apex. Tibial spurs 1/1/2.

Distribution. Cape Verde Islands, Gambia, South Africa.

Remarks. The ♀ mesosoma of Gonatopus festivus Olmi can vary in colour, from totally testaceous to partly black or brown. If the colour is partly black or brown, ♀♀ of G. festivus can be confused with G. harteni Olmi. In this case, ♀♀ of these two species are indistinguishable. However, the two species are distinct, because their ♂♂ show strong differences.
