Subgenus Clivina

Clivina (Clivina) castanea Westwood, 1837

New record for Hong Kong. Determined from photograph by Dmitry Fedorenko and confirmed by Michael Balkenohl from specimens. Material: 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, 9.x.12. Biology: Imago found October. Freshwater marsh adjacent to open water.

Clivina (Clivina) vulgivaga Boheman, 1858

Putzeys (1866) listed this species for Hong Kong. The specimens were determined using Nakane (1952) and match Boheman's original description and probably belong to this species or at least what has been recorded as this species from Hong Kong. Material: 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Mui Wo, 11.ii.11 Mui Wo, pitfall trap; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Wu Kau Tang, 23.iii.12; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Mui Wo, 24.iii.13, in mud of Buffalo Wallow; Sight record 2 exx., W.T.L., 16.iv.14; 1 ex. W.T.L., 15.v.14; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Tseun Wan, 29.iv.08, in fresh cow dung; Sight record W.T.L., 4.ix.14; Sight record W.T.L., 6.ix.14; Sight record W.T.L., 15.ix.14; 1 ex. W.T.L., 2.x.10; 1 ex. W.T.L., 4.x.11; 1 ex. W.T.L., 14.x.08; 1ex. W.T.L., 16.x.11; 1 ex. W.T.L., 21.x.08; 1 ex. W.T.L., 24.x.06; 1 ex. W.T.L., October 2010; 1 ex. W.T.L., 7.xi.09; 4 exx. W.T.L., November 2011. Biology: Imago found February to June and October to November. All records from lower altitudes. Habitat cow dung, muddy areas. Easily attracted to light especially in October and November which are generally the months when the ground is drying out. Fully winged.

Determined by Michael Balkenohl from specimens who quoted "The lobata group is not well understood and needs revision. Only a few species are described yet. So, it is an adventure to define the species without type material" (Baehr, pers. comm.). Material: 1 ex. W.T.L., 20.v.12; 1 ex. W.T.L., 26.v.06; 1 ex. W.T.L., July 2011; 1 ex. W.T.L., 1.x.09; 1 ex. W.T.L., 7.x.13; 1 ex. W.T.L., 11.x.13; Sight record W.T.L., 15.x.13; 1 ex. W.T.L., 24.x.06; 1 ex. W.T.L., October 2010. Biology: Imago found May to July and October. All records are from lights. Fully winged.
