Genus Abroscelis Hope, 1838

Abroscelis anchoralis anchoralis (Chevrolat, 1845)

Chevrolat described this species from the environs of Macao. Chaudoir (1865), Redtenbacher (1867), Schilder (1911), Horn (1930), Cheng and Hill (1980), Lee & Winney (1981), Hill, Hore & Thornton (1982), Wiesner (1992), Chen et al. 2002, Hua (2002), Puchkov & Matalin (2003) and Shook & Wiesner (2006) list this species as occurring in Hong Kong. Material: 2 exx. Hong Kong, Dong Ping Chau, 9.vi.08 (1 ex. JWPC); Sight record, Hong Kong, Lantau, Tai Long Wan, 30.vii.98. Biology: Imago found June to July. It can still be locally common on pristine beaches in the summer months. Amazingly it can be seen at midday, with cloudless skies, running on the extremely hot sand. Fully winged and readily flies, sometimes to a distance of over 10 metres to escape danger.

Another species Chevrolat described from the environs of Macao. Listed as occurring in Hong Kong by Chaudoir (1865), Schilder (1911), Horn (1930), Wiesner (1992), Hua (2002), Puchkov & Matalin (2003) and Shook & Wiesner (2006).
