Genus Peliocypas Schmidt-Gobel, 1846

Peliocypas cordicollis (Bates, 1889)

New record for Hong Kong. Identification determined by Dr. Martin Baehr from specimens. Material: 1 ex. Hong Kong, Tai Om Shan, 6.iv.13; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Tai Om Shan, 16.iv.13; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lam Tseun valley, 13.v.12; 2 exx. Hong Kong, Tai Om Shan, 17.v.13; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Tai Om Shan, 18.v.13; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Tai Mo Shan, 9.vii.11, in grass circa 800 m altitude; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Tai Mo Shan, 29.vii.12; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lam Tsuen valley, 8.viii.12, in wet ditch. Biology: Imago found April to August in grasslands. Appears at higher altitudes up to 800 m in mid to late summer, it would be very interesting to ascertain whether this was a new generation or a result of altitudinal movement.

There is another species of Peliocypas, that differs from the previous in being slightly larger, having pubescence on pronotum and elytra; elytral striae blackish brown, distinctly punctate with the intervals very glossy. Using Kirschenhofer (1986b) and Jedlièka (1963) it keys out to Peliocypas luridus (Schmidt-Göbel, 1846), though it is unlikely to be this species as nowhere in the description do they mention the distinctive dark stria. Material: 1 ex. Hong Kong, Tai Om Shan, 6.iv.13; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Wu Kau Tang, 12.iv.14; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lam Tsuen valley, 21.iv.12; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Tai Om Shan, 27.iv.13; 2 exx. Hong Kong, Lam Tseun valley, 29.iv.12; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lam Tsuen valley, 5.v.12; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Wu Kau Tang, 29.v.12. Biology: Imago found April to May. Grasslands in lower altitudes.
