Caliothrips nanus (Hood)

This species is recorded here for the first time in Brazil and South America. Previously it has been reported only from Trinidad, Panama and Costa Rica (ThripsWiki 2020), but no information is available concerning its host plant associations. Characters include: antennal segments III–V pale with brown apical halves, fore wing with base pale (Fig. 82), median and apical brown bands distinct, fork of first and second vein with a pair of robust dark setae (Fig. 82). As indicated in the key and below, it is similar to C. phaseoli . Males are similar to females, but with transverse pore plates on sternites III–VII.

NEW RECORD. Brazil. Mato Grosso: Cuiabá, 3 females on dead leaves of unidentified palm ( Arecaceae), 11.iii.2016; Acre: Rio Branco, 2 females on Fabaceae leaves, 24.vii.2019 (E.F.B. Lima) (CHNUFPI) .
