Hoodothrips lineatus (Hood)
(Figs 30, 31, 46, 61, 79, 89, 119)
This species is recorded in Brazil as pest of banana (Martinez & Palazzo 1971, Martinez 1975), and the males have a lateral expansion on abdominal segments IV and V whose function is not yet understood. This feature is not present on males of H. constrictus . The lateral protrusion on pleurotergite IV is a downward facing hook, and that on V is a large tubercle with 1 or more apical setae (Fig. 119). Sternites III–VII of males have transverse markings on the anterior sternites and small, oval reticulations on the posterior sternites.
