Genus Mideopsides Lundblad, 1943, nov. stat.

Type species: Mideopsis gibberipalpis Lundblad, 1943

Diagnosis: Dorsal shields may or may not be fused anteriorly; surface of dorsal shield varying from plain (especially in the northern areas of its range) to various development of ornamentation and ridges; posterior suture lines of Cx-IV poorly developed; coxae not forming a medial suture line; no ridges extending anterolaterally from region of insertion of IV-L; Cxgl-2 lying anterior to genital field, but with the gland portion occasionally missing; large extensions of Cx-IV nearly cover openings for insertion of IV-L when viewed ventrally; three pairs of Ac; the two pairs of glandularia with long associated setae at posterior end of ventral shield with the two pairs of associated glands present; swimming setae present; palp not uncate; the typical two pair of small setae of P-4 located at the extreme proximal end of the segment, and may be located on a very small projection or none; except for the genital field, no sexual dimorphism of the idiosoma, legs or palp.

Remarks: The projection of Cx-IV over the openings for insertion of IV-L plus the unique positioning of the two small setae of P-4 is unique and will easily separate the present genus from all others.

Distribution: Generally neotropical but with one species extending into extreme southwestern USA.
