Goniosoma hexacanthum: Simon, 1879: 233 (desc.)
Promitobates hexacanthus: Roewer 1913: 286, fig. 114 (desc.); 1923: 510, fig. 637 (rdesc); Mello-Leitão 1932: 401, fig. 265 (rdesc); Soares & Soares 1949: 237 (cat.); Kury 2003:151 (cat.).
Note. In the original description, there is no further information about the type locality, it is indicated only as “ Brazil ”. The holotype, a male, was deposited in the collection of the Imperial Habsburgs in Vienna. Roewer (1913), on a visit to Vienna, found another batch of material labeled as " Ancistrotus armatus sp.n. " (in schedula), coming from Rio Negro (border between the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina), and he thought this was the same specimen studied by Kollar. We obtained photos of this specimen, identified as P. hexacanthus, kindly supplied by the curator of the institution. However, on the label, the collection date (1847), also recorded from "Rio Negro", is incompatible with the description of the species (1839). Therefore, we conclude that this material does not refer to those used by Kollar in the species description, but most likely the “ A. armatus ”, misidentified by Roewer as P. hexacanthus . The original description does not provide enough information for a reliable identification; therefore, the only way to resolve this question is to rediscover the type material of this species.
