In permanent ponds and lakes, preferring those with surfaces completely overgrown with duckweed in the summer; also occurs in the quiet backwaters of lowland rivers with slow currents and warm water, associated with aquatic vegetation (Kanyukova 2006); zoophage; multivoltine; overwinters in the egg stage.
