Type locality. Strait of Karimata, Indonesia (Ii 1964) .

Record from Thailand. South-eastern Andaman Sea, next to Phuket Island (Fukuoka & Murano 2002).

Habitat and depth range. Marine, depth: 28–63 m (Fukuoka & Murano 2002) .

Distribution. This species is distributed from Indonesia (Ii 1964), Strait of Malacca (O.S. Tattersall 1965), South China Sea (Liu & Wang 1986), East China Sea (Wang & Liu 1997), India (Panampunnayil 1998; Biju et al. 2014), Arabian Sea (Biju & Panampunnayil 2011) to Andaman Sea (Fukuoka & Murano 2002).

Remarks. The term inscita is not accepted due to the incorrect gender ending, therefore, the valid name of the species is inscitus (Mees & Meland 2022d) .
