Dioptromysis proxima Nouvel, 1964

Type locality. Madagascar (Nouvel 1964)

Record from Thailand. South-eastern Andaman Sea, next to Phuket Island (Fukuoka & Murano 2002).

Habitat and depth range. Marine, depth: 19–60 m (Fukuoka & Murano 2002) .

Distribution. This species is distributed from Madagascar (Nouvel 1964; Ledoyer 1970), and Tanzania (Băcescu 1975) to the Andaman Sea (Fukuoka & Murano 2002).

Remarks. The species D. proxima is similar to D. perspicillata, however, both of these species can be distinguished as follows; in D. proxima, (1) rostral plate lobulated, (2) telson cleft rounded, and (3) endopod of the fifth male pleopod with a narrow lobe with one plumose seta distal to the pseudo-branchial lobe, while in D. perspicillata, (1) rostral plate low, triangular, with obtuse apex, (2) telson cleft pointed, and (3) endopod of the fifth male pleopod without a narrow lobe distal to the pseudo-branchial lobe (Brattegard 1969).
