Afrotropical: 1) South Africa, 2) Zimbabwe (Norval 1985c, Horak et al. 2018).

Several South African records of Haemaphysalis cooleyi in Theiler (1962) have been re-identified as Haemaphysalis hyracophila, as discussed in Horak et al. (2018).
