Taxonomy: Niisima (1909) described X. ishidai from three syntype specimens, one from Jozankei, and two from Sapporo. The Sapporo specimens were not located in Niisima’s collection at NIAES. To ensure correct and consistent application of the name, we here designate the female specimen from Jozankei as the lectotype of Xyleborus ishidai Niisima. The lectotype is labeled “Jozan [handwritten] Ishida [typed]\ 23.V.1904 [handwritten]\ Xyleborus ishidai Niis (sp. n.) (XVI-1-099) [handwritten] nach Y. Niijima [typed] \ [red label] LECTOTYPE Xyleborus ishidai Niisima [typed]”. The lectotype and two non-type specimens of Xyleborus ishidai (NIAES) were examined and found to be conspecific with specimens of A. dispar in NMNH, NHMW and MSUC.
