48. Simulium (Simulium) digrammicum Edwards, 1928

Simulium digrammicum Edwards, 1928: 61 –62 (Female).

Simulium (Simulium) digrammicum: Takaoka & Suzuki, 1984: 40; Takaoka & Davies, 1995: 102–105 (Female); Takaoka & Choochote, 2007: 127 –131 (Male, pupa and larva).

This species was described from females collected from Cameron Highlands (Edwards, 1928). It was treated as a junior synonym of S. (S.) griseifrons Brunetti, 1911 from India by Puri (1932c) but resurrected by Takaoka and Davies (1995), who also redescribed and illustrated the female based on the lectotype and paralectotype specimens. The male, pupa and larva were later described based on specimens collected from Thailand (Takaoka and Choochote, 2002).

Females of this species were also collected from Mt. Tahan, Pahang and Gombak Forest Reserve, Selangor (Takaoka and Davies, 1995). No additional material was recovered from Cameron Highlands or other areas except for one set of pupal exuviae and cocoon from Simpang Pulai. The pupal exuviae are almost the same as those described from Thailand (Takaoka and Choochote, 2007) except the relative thickness of the six gill filaments.
