3. Simulium (Gomphostilbia) brinchangense Takaoka, Sofian-Azirun & Hashim, 2014

Simulium (Gomphostilbia) brinchangense: Takaoka et al., 2014f: 55 –61 (Female, male pupa and larva).

This species was described from females, males, pupae, and larvae (Takaoka et al., 2014f). It is similar to S. asakoae but distinguished from the latter species in the male by the brown upper-eye facets, in the pupa by abdominal segments 1 and 2 not darkened on the dorsal surface and in the larva by the head capsule which is not darkened around the postgenal cleft.

The pupae and larvae were collected from a small stream at high elevation (1,813 m) in Cameron Highlands.

This species was once recorded from Vietnam (Takaoka et al., 2014c). However, it was later described as a new species, S. (G.) sanchayense Takaoka & Lau, based on an analysis of the COI gene sequences (Takaoka et al., 2017a).
