Halacarus spongiphilus Kishida, 1927
Report associated with sponges: This species was reported among Farrea occa ("Kinuami-kaimen” in Japanese) collected from the depths of Sagami Bay, Japan (Kishida 1927). This was also again reported on a dictyonine sponge at 93–97 m depth in Sagami Bay (Abé 2010).
Remarks: This species was redescribed on the basis of newly collected specimens by Abé (2010). “It is not clear whether this mite is a parasite on its sponge host, or just a commensal making use of the sponge for habitation” (Abé 2010).
