Ploeogaster Amyot & Serville, 1843

Ploeogaster currently includes 10 valid species (Maldonado 1990, Gil-Santana & Webb 2019), all in need of a revision, since only the information provided in the original descriptions, all of them published in the 19th century, are available for most of the species. Ploeogaster mammosus was described from “Cayenne” (French Guiana) (Amyot & Serville 1843), while Villiers (1971) mentioned two additional specimens of Ploeogaster from French Guiana, unidentified to species level. An additional species is recorded here.
