Squalius cephalopsis Heckel, 1843

Remarks. This species was identified in Aleppo, Syria (syntypes: NMW 49438 (3), 49440 (2)). The species were synonymized by Coad (1991: 18) as Squalius cephalus and Leuciscus cephalus . However, Syria is not included in the natural distribution range of S. cephalus . It could be claimed that the current status of the species is ambiguous and therefore needs clarification.
