Portunus anceps (Saussure, 1857)

Lupea anceps Saussure, 1857: 434, pl. 2, figs. 11.

Material examined. None.

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina, Florida), Bermuda Gulf of Mexico, Antilles to Brazil (Fernando de Noronha, Amapá, Pará, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, São Paulo) (Powers 1977; Williams 1984; Barreto et al. 1993; Melo 1996; Bertini et al. 2004; Almeida et al. 2007a, b; Almeida & Coelho 2008; Alves et al. 2008; Felder et al. 2009; Mendonça et al. 2019).

Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba (Bertini et al. 2004, 2010). Few individuals of small size (20mm) were analyzed according to literature (Bertini et al. 2004) and probably it is a species difficult to sample and identify. During a previous and long investigation on the phylogenetic position of the genus (Mantelatto et al. 2007, 2009, 2018b), no individuals were detected in São Paulo. For that reason, its occurrence remains uncertain.
