Material examined. None.

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina to Georgia), Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, and Brazil (Amapá, Paraíba, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul) (Rathbun 1901, 1933; Goeke & Heard 1984; Williams 1984; Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1986; Melo et al. 1998; Coelho et al. 2008; Felder et al. 2009; Melo 2010).

Remarks. This species was previously recorded to São Paulo state, but the locality was not mentioned (Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1986). Specimens found from 51 to 172m (Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1986), and in the literature available the number of individuals captured is low.
