Pilumnus floridanus Stimpson, 1871

Pilumnus floridanus Stimpson, 1871: 141

Material examined. Brazil, São Paulo: 1 ♂, 1 ♀, CCDB 5919, Ilhabela, Ilha dos Búzios, colls. F. Zara et al., 10.iv.2013 .

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina, Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Caribbean Sea, Venezuela, French Guiana, and Brazil (Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) (Desbonne 1867; Power 1977; Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1980; Rodríguez 1980; Abele & Kim 1986; Martinez-Iglesias & Hernandez 1986; Felder et al. 2009; Magalhães & Mantelatto in prep.).

Remarks. Previous records in the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba (Alves et al. 2012b). We believe that the distribution of this species may be continuous along the Brazilian coast. Probably the observed gaps are because it is difficult to identify the Pilumnus species. Sequences accession number (GenBank): CCDB 5919—16S (MF504050), COI (MF504104) (Mantelatto et al. 2018a).
