Genus Tetrameringia McAlpine
Tetrameringia McAlpine, 1960: 68 . Type species, Tetrameringia ustulata McAlpine, 1960, fixed by original designation.
Diagnosis. Head with three (rarely four) or, with lowermost or inclinate, distinct oc and poc; occiput flat to shallowly concave; arista pubescent to plumose. Mesoscutum with three or four postsutural dc, distinct prs and prsc; anepisternum with black spot.
Wing 2.0– 4.2 mm long, crossvein bm-cu complete, M1 ratio 1.5–3.0, ultimate section of CuA1 shorter than 1/2 length of penultimate section. Fore and mid tibiae with minute dp. Epandrium with surstylus narrowing ventrally, bearing minute apical spinule; mesophallus with numerous rows of microscopic spinules, distiphallus long and tubular, paraphallus very narrow.
Remarks. This genus has hitherto been known from Australia (McAlpine 1960), South Africa (Stuckenberg 1973), Malawi (Barraclough 2002), Madagascar (Verbeke 1963) and Japan (Sueyoshi 2006).
