(1 genus, 1 species). Solís et al. (2014) used Owen (1842) as the author of this family name, but Owen (1842, 65) used Crocodilia as an order name, as had Cuvier. I continue to credit Cuvier for the crocodile family name following Brochu (2003, 360), but note that the author of this name has not been resolved.

Crocodylus acutus (Cuvier 1807, 55). Milián-García et al. (2011) using genetic data, recovered evidence that more than one species was involved under the nominal form C. acutus . There are names available if it should be shown that the Central American populations are not the same species as C. acutus (type locality on Hispaniola).
