Remarks: This species resembles Coelichneumon haemorrhoidalis (Gravenhorst, 1820) which has also been reported from the Eastern Palaearctic region (Riedel 2012), but differs by its less strongly lanceolate flagellum, slightly slenderer basal flagellomeres, reduced striation on postpetiolus and 2 nd tergite, mainly red 1 st tergite and brownish instead of pale hairs on mesosoma. From the European Coelichneumon torsor (Thunberg, 1822), it can be differentiated by its less strongly lanceolate flagellum, black apical tergites and reduced striation on postpetiolus and 2 nd tergite. It is not impossible that Coelichneumon clypeatus represents a Japanese subspecies or form of one of these taxa. This is the first record of this species from Japan.
Distribution: Japan (Hokkaido) and Korea.
