Distribution (Fig. 10). A Betico-Rifan subspecies. Both subspecies, L. franzi paenibaetica and the nominate L. franzi franzi Aubert 1956 range from 20 to 1600 m a.s.l. (Sánchez-Ortega et al. 2003). In 2013, we collected L. franzi paenibaetica for the first time in the Moroccan Middle Atlas (Vinçon et al. 2014).

Ecology. The larvae of L. franzi occur in various habitats (Aubert 1963a). The adults emerge in autumn (Sánchez-Ortega & Azzouz 1998, Vinçon et al. 2014), with maximum emergence occurring in October and November.
