Dashymeniella tibialis Poppius

(Figures 87, 97–101)

Dashymeniella tibialis Poppius 1914a: 54 [sp. nov.]

Dasymeniella tibialis: Bergroth 1920: 70 [unnecessary emendation]

Dashymeniella tibialis: Carvalho 1957: 27 [catalog]; Schuh 1995: 24 [catalog]; Gorczyca 2006: 12 [catalog]

Diagnosis. Dashymeniella tibialis is distinct among other Dashymeniella species by the following set of features: dorsum covered with moderately dense setae; calli distinct, moderately raised; pronotum with longitudinal swelling along midline of posterior lobe (Fig. 15); endosoma strongly membranous, DSS with basal one third somewhat broadened, apical two thirds nearly cylindrical; AES strongly enlarged, embracing DSS; MES lacking; PES long, gradually becoming thinner toward apex (Fig. 99); right paramere with the apical process obtuse (Fig. 101).

Male genitalia. Endosoma (Fig. 99). Strongly membranous; DSS with basal one third somewhat broadened, apical two thirds thin, nearly cylindrical; AES strongly enlarged, embracing DSS; PES long, gradually becoming thinner toward apex. Left paramere (Fig. 100). Apical process broadened subapically, sharpened apically; paramere body somewhat convex on inner surface medially; sensory lobe somewhat convex. Right paramere (Fig. 101). Apical process obtuse; paramere body somewhat sinuate laterally; basal process nearly triangular.

Measurements. 3: Body length 4.2, width 1.95. Head. Length 0.47, width 1,1, diameter of eye in up view 0.28. Antenna. Length of segment I 0.48, II 1.0. Pronotum. Length 1.18, width of anterior margin 0.85, length of lateral margin 0.9, width of posterior margin 1.8.

Distribution (Fig. 87). Indonesia (Sumatra), Malaysia (Malay Peninsula).

Remarks. We found a single male specimen belonging to this species from the Malacca, Perak (Malaysia: Malay Peninsula). Our identification of this specimen as D. tibialis was based on the following characters presented by Poppius (1914a): dorsum brown black, covered with relatively short, recumbent setae; head strongly rugose; and pronotal calli distinct, divided by longitudinal incision. In other species of Dashymeniella the dorsum is usually brown to dark brown, the dorsal vestiture is lacking or indistinct, the head is either punctate or less rugose, and the pronotal calli are indistinct, not divided by a longitudinal sulcus.

Type material. Holotype Ƥ: Si-Rambe!, XII, 1890 – III, E. Modigliani (deposited in the Zoological Museum, Helsinki University, Finland, not examined).

Additional examined material. 1 3: Malacca, Perak (NHRS).
