Since the discovery of G. e a s o n i Arthur, Foddai, Kettle, Lewis, Luczynski & Minelli, 2001 and the reevaluation of G. arenarius Meinert, 1870 (Bonato & Minelli 2011), it is now clear that there are multiple taxa within what was known until recently as a single species G. carpophagus . The range of this species-complex includes Middle and Near East, most part of Europe, Maghreb and Macaronesia (see Zapparoli & Iorio 2012). The identity of the populations in the Eastern part of this range deserves close study.
