DISTRIBUTION: Central North America from C. Alberta (Canada) to N. W. Texas and E. New Mexico (U.S.A.).
COMMENT: Placed in subgenus Canis, subgenus Vulpes by Van Gelder, 1978:1- 10. Distinct from macrotis; see Thornton and Creel, 1975, Texas J. Sci., 26: 127- 136; Rohwer and Kilgore, 1973, Syst.
