Two specimens, one male and one female, were found with corresponding data matching the original description, which referred to a “single pair”, and a small label reading “Type” that was added by the NHM. We here designate the male specimen as the lectotype and female specimen as the paralectotype. Labels for the designated male specimen read: “V. de Chiriqui/below 4,000ft. /Champion.” “B.C.A. Col. II. 1. / Carpophilus /similaris,/Sharp.”. A red label is added with the following text: “ LECTOTYPE / Carpophilus similaris Sharp /Desig. By/Powell and Martin 2019”; for the female: “V. de Chiriqui/below 4,000ft. /Champion.” “B.C.A. Col. II (1)./ Carpophilus ” “Type”. A label is added with the following text: “ PARALECTOTYPE / Carpophilus similaris Sharp /Desig. By/Powell and Martin 2019”.
