Type locality: not stated.

Material in MHNG, Lamarck collection: holotype MHNG INVE 51713 (ex MHNG 1098 /15) (figured herein, Fig. 19B), 119 mm. This specimen is probably the one figured in the Tableau, and the one subsequently figured by Kiener (who did not illustrate it in actual size). No locality was given.

Remarks: According to Rosalie de Lamarck, her father’s collection contained only one specimen.

Current taxonomic position: Penion sulcatus (Lamarck, 1816); placed in Penion [ Buccinidae] by Ponder (1973): 416. Locality is New Zealand.
