Material in MHNG, Lamarck collection: 1 specimen MHNG INVE 51714 (ex MHNG 1098/16), 14.8 cm. There is a handwritten note of Lamarck, Fusus antiquus, inside the aperture of the shell. Locality on the label: Mers du Nord .

Remarks: According to Rosalie de Lamarck, her father’s collection contained five specimens.

Current taxonomic position: Neptunea antiqua (Linnaeus, 1758); type species of Neptunea Röding, 1798 [ Buccinidae]. Locality is Western Europe to Scotland. Lamarck (1822) recognized the priority of Linnaeus’ name.
