Type locality: les mers de l’Ile - de - France.
Material in MHNG, Lamarck collection: holotype MHNG INVE 51733 (ex MHNG 1098/35) (figured herein, Fig. 8A), 23 mm. Locality on the label: Ile de France .
Remarks: According to Rosalie de Lamarck, her father’s collection contained a single specimen.
Current taxonomic position: Peristernia rubens (Lamarck, 1822); Peristernia rubens is the senior name for the species usually called Peristernia zealandica (Küster & Kobelt, 1876 in [1844–1876]). For a discussion of this later name, see Herbert (1994). “L’Ile de France ” is the former name of Mauritius, while under French control during the 18 th century. Locality is Mauritius.
