Cardium (Parvicardium) exiguum var. minimum Bellini, 1903a: 23, 26, fig. 8
(Fig. 4I: left)
Type locality: Fusaro Lake (Bacoli, Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy) .
Original description: “dimensioni piccolissime” [very small sizes].
Remarks: having been instituted on the basis of insignificant morphological characteristics, we rank it infrasubspecific, and thus not available (ICZN 2012: Art. 10.2, 45.5, 45.6, glossary). Despite this, it was listed as a variety of Parvicardium exiguum (Gmelin, 1791) by Hyllelberg (2004). It would be also preoccupied by Cardium minimum Philippi, 1836 . Interestingly, this variety was then skipped by Bellini (1929a) in the general overview of the marine molluscan species living in the Gulf of Naples. This taxon was based on a juvenile shell of P. exiguum, a species that was found again during samplings held in the area in 1975–2018 (Ferro & Russo 1982; authors’ unpublished data).
