Euxanthus rugosus Miers, 1884 *
(Fig. 2D)
Material examined. 1 juvenile male (10.3 x 6.8 mm) (DABFUK), Kavaratti, 7 January 2013 .
Remarks. A new record for Lakshadweep. The present specimen of E. rugosus is a juvenile, but it already has the rugosities on the areolae of the dorsal surface of the carapace and the prominent outwardly directed projection on the carpus of the cheliped, a character typical for the species (cf. Guinot-Dumortier 1960; Serene 1984). The only other Indian record of E. rugosus is that of Dev Roy & Nandi (2012) from the Nicobar and Andaman Islands. Given the similarity of the present species with E. exsculptus (Herbst, 1790), previous records of E. exsculptus by Rao et al. (1989) and Bakus (1994) will need to be verified.
