Centris (Trachina) proxima Friese, 1899

Centris proxima Friese, 1899b: 45 [New lectotype designation]

Centris proxima lectotype (♂, Figs 25–28): Friese described this species based on five or more specimens from Brazil. No specimens from the syntype series were seen in ZMBH (e.g., from Santa Leopoldina, Espirito Santo). A single male labeled “ Brasil / Jundiahy / 16.ii.1899 / Schrottky” [printed, except date and month], “ Centris ♂ / proxima F. / 1900 Friese det. [printed] / Type ” is therefore here designated as the lectotype. The lectotype specimen was collected by Curt Schrottky and formed part of the early bee study by Schrottky from Brazil, São Paulo, Jundiaí (Rasmussen et al. 2009). Centris proxima has been considered a junior synonymon of C. dentata Smith, 1854 (e.g., Snelling 1984; Azevedo & Silveira 2005), but following Moure et al. (2007) is here considered a distinct and valid species.
