Centris (Hemisiella) facialis Mocsáry, 1899
Centris facialis Mocsáry, 1899: 253 [New lectotype designation]
Centris nitida geminata Cockerell, 1914: 315 . New junior subjective synonymy
Centris facialis lectotype (♀, Figs 1–4): A single female labeled “ Bolivia / S. Antonio”, “93.” [green label], “ facialis / det. Friese 1898 [printed] / Mocs.” is here designated as the lectotype. The specimen agrees with the original description and is from the type locality (San Antonio, Potosí, Bolivia). Two additional specimens examined from HNHM were not from the syntype series, although syntype [now to be considered paralectotype] specimens from “Songo” [Zongo, Cordillera Real, La Paz, Bolivia] should exist in collections. The green colored label from this specimen, and the following material, simply indicates that the origin is within the Neotropical region. Moure et al. (2007) considered C. facialis and C. geminata as two valid and distinct species. However, our examination of both primary types concludes that they are, in fact, identical and have been newly synonymized here. The holotype (not syntype) of C. nitida geminata is in the USNM.
