4.2. Myrceugenia ovalifolia (O.Berg) Landrum, Brittonia 36: 163. 1984.
Basionym: Mitranthes ovalifolia O.Berg, Fl. Bras. 14(1): 356. 1857 (type: "Brasilia", Sellow s.n., B, probably lost).
= Calyptranthes rostellata Mattos & D.Legrand, Loefgrenia 67: 18. 1975 (type: Serra dos Órgãos, Miers s.n., C, not located). Syn. nov.
There is no register of a type specimen (or any other material) of Calyptranthes rostellata in C; nevertheless, Miers' collection in BM matches the protologue and is very possibly an isotype of the species. It is easy to understand the difficulties that Mattos and Legrand faced in assigning this curious species to a genus, because solitary and calyptrate flowers were generally assigned to either Calyptranthes or Mitranthes . It was not until 1984 that Landrum (1984) showed that such a suite of characters is also present in Myrceugenia .
