We were not able to find any original specimen of Aulomyrcia spathulata, but the description in the protologue adequately matches the characters of Myrcia tomentosa . Additionally, the species to which A. spathulata is compared Aulomyrcia alloiota, A. aureolanata and A. caracasana (Berg, 1857 –1859) are all synonyms of M. tomentosa (Govaerts et al. 2010) .
