Diagnosis (male). Characteristic wing maculation anterior to CuA1 and near Rs apex; M2 convex near apex; M1 slightly swollen.
Material examined. Holotype: ♂, COSTA RICA: Limón: R.B. Hiltoy Cerere: Sendero Espavel, 11.iii– 1.iv.2003, Malaise trap, 560 m, B. Gamboa, E. Rojas, W. Arana col. (INBC) .
Geographical distribution. Known from a single low elevation site in Costa Rica.
Comments. The hypopygium of Coniceromyia hoggi has no conspicuous differences from that of C. apicalis and it is not illustrated herein. The close relationship between these species is also supported by their similar wing maculation pattern and the swollen M1.
