The valid type species fixation is that of Gory & Percheron (1833) where Lomaptera latreillei Gory & Percheron (1833) is the only species mentioned.

However, that species is currently included in the genus Ischiopsopha Gestro, 1874 . MacLeay (1838) subsequently selected Lomaptera bivittata Gory & Percheron, and Chevrolat (1846) selected Lomaptera fasciata Burmeister, 1842 as the type species, but neither is an originally included nominal species and both are recognised as junior synonyms of Ischiopsopha bifasciata (Quoy & Gaimard, 1825) . The current concept of the genus is based on the type species Cetonia papua Guérin-Méneville, 1831, which is not an originally included nominal species, as designated by Valck Lucassen (1961). An application to the Commission is necessary to fix Cetonia papua Guérin-Méneville, 1831 as the type species of Lomaptera Gory & Percheron, 1833 .
